March 2 Assembly Health Information Hearing Statement from Riverside County Medical Association Executive Director Dolores Green

SACRAMENTO — On Tuesday, March 2, the California State Assembly held an informational hearing in the Health Committee where expert panelists were invited to speak about the importance of creating a statewide health information exchange (HIE) network in California. Connecting for Better Health coalition participant Dolores Green spoke on the panel and released the following statement:

“As the hearing made clear, there’s no denying that more needs to be done to address California’s siloed information systems that prevent healthcare providers from delivering the best possible care to patients, no matter the health system or where they get their care.

“My own work in the Inland Empire has shown that when industry leaders come together, we can build high-quality data infrastructure that harnesses secure patient data to deliver critical care to every California community.  That’s why when COVID-19 first hit Riverside County, the Inland Empire Health Information Organization was prepared to quickly identify and contact 73,000 high-risk patients about important safety precautions they should take. With a growing COVID-19 vaccination strategy now underway, we hope the legislature and the Governor will prioritize building a statewide HIE network that would help strengthen the response to current and future public health crises.”
