The Data Exchange Framework Community Sandbox Platform is Now Available

Connecting for Better Health announces the first-of-its-kind platform can now be leveraged and accessed by health and social service entities across California to accelerate data exchange for improved care

LARKSPUR, Calif. – July 30, 2024 – Connecting for Better Health (C4BH), the nonprofit coalition dedicated to advancing data exchange in California, today announced that health and social service entities participating in the Data Exchange Framework (DxF) can now access and explore the coalition’s DxF Community Sandbox. Open to all DxF participants, this unique platform offers tools to foster collaboration and enhance data sharing to maximize the value of California’s statewide DxF initiative.

The virtual testing environment, the first of its kind, allows participants to seamlessly plan, design and adjust workflows to fully realize the value and promise of the DxF. Specific features allow users to

  • use visualization tools to identify neighboring organizations and learn how they are sharing data;
  • explore available use cases to further your organization’s data sharing practices (more coming soon); and
  • simulate data exchange and test use cases with organizations that have onboarded to the Sandbox.

DxF participants are invited to get started today by following the below steps:

  • Create an individual account to access the Sandbox.
  • Register their organization in the Sandbox (under “Sandbox Registration”) to onboard and engage in data exchange testing.
  • If their organization is not available when registering, take action in the CalHHS Signing Portal to sign the DxF Data Sharing Agreement and fill out the DxF Participant Directory.

The DxF Sandbox was created in collaboration with technology and innovation leader EMI Advisors and other key public and private partners. It is supported by early adopter health plans including Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Health Net, and L.A. Care Health Plan, with additional grant funding from Amazon Web Services’s Health Equity Initiative, Cedars-Sinai, Smile Digital Health, and the CalHHS Center for Data Insights and Innovation.
