In February, Executive Director Timi Leslie moderated the EHR Modernization panel at ViVE, bringing together leading voices in electronic health records to examine how the industry is embracing AI and navigating the path toward more connected and coordinated care.
While enthusiasm for AI’s potential was a throughline of the discussion, the panel was candid about a more fundamental challenge: The health care industry’s continued reliance on fragmented, manual workflows remains a critical barrier to meaningful progress regardless of the technology available.
Following the conference, the conversation continued with Leslie joining the Change the Box podcast, where the focus shifted to the root causes of interoperability challenges. The core message: These are not just technology problems. Workflow, governance, and operational alignment challenges persist, and their impact is felt directly by patients, providers, and communities.
C4BH’s Community Design Studio is addressing these challenges head-on through community-led design work that places the patient at the center. By mapping and re-tooling connections use case by use case, the Design Studio drives value at the point of care. All resulting artifacts are made available in the Community Sandbox®, ensuring that solutions developed by partners can be accessed and built upon by others addressing similar challenges.
Progress requires a practical, deliberate approach to tackle interoperability block by block, use case by use case. The work is ongoing, but the direction is clear.
